ABOUT OPEL

Opel has one of the longest traditions of any automobile manufacturer in the world and is one of the biggest European car manufacturers. Adam Opel founded the company in Rüsselsheim am Main in 1862.

The company started building automobiles in 1899 and has been democratizing automotive innovations and making them available to all sections of society ever since.

The company is part of Stellantis NV, a global leader created for the new era of sustainable mobility as a result of the merger between Groupe PSA and FCA Group in January 2021.

Opel and its British sister brand Vauxhall are represented in more than 60 countries around the globe and produce their passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in several countries. Every Opel/Vauxhall vehicle is developed in the R&D Center in Rüsselsheim, which also has important overall development responsibilities.

Opel is successfully implementing its PACE! company plan. It has enabled the company to become sustainably profitable and to go global and electric.

In addition, Opel is continuing its model offensive in growing segments and is preparing its product portfolio for a sustainably successful future in view of the ambitious global emission targets. Opel is proactively addressing the profound changes that the entire automotive industry is facing, above all due to electro-mobility.

Hardly any other car manufacturer has such a consistent electrification strategy as Opel: By 2024 already, all European passenger car models will offer an electric variant – either as pure battery electric vehicles or as plug-in hybrids – in addition to the company’s highly efficient combustion engines.

Opel/Vauxhall will have nine electrified models on the market in 2021 already – ranging from small cars to SUVs and the entire light commercial vehicle portfolio – and will therefore be well positioned in every important market segment.

Furthermore, Opel is participating in other important projects in the field of electro-mobility. Together with partners, the company is turning its home town of Rüsselsheim into Electric City and creating an extensive charging infrastructure. Opel and its partners are also conducting research into the ideal power grid of the future within the scope of the E-Mobility-LAB Hessen.

Opel will cover the entire value chain of electro-mobility: On the one hand, the company has access to electric motors thanks to its parent company’s joint venture. On the other hand, an investment of €2 billion is planned for the production of battery cells in Kaiserslautern.

Opel is prepared for the stricter emissions targets of the future thanks to its comprehensive electrification strategy and its efficient internal combustion engines. Opel became a market leader in CO2 reduction in 2020 already.
